It may not look like a mountain...but try hiking it
Met for covert operation at 10 am at school today. Got very confused by other group also meeting at 10 am at same spot...except on two-wheeled contraptions called 'bikes'. After finally sorting out the two groups, two legged from two wheeled, about 30 people jumped into cars for transport to Mt Finlayson. It's a local hiking/nature area/provinical park about 30 minutes west of Victoria. It was here that the UVIC outdoors club met for a hike up the 'mountain'. The going was good, bad and ugly, over roots and rocks, and certainly up. Though a very small mountain, when going straight up it becomes a vigorous hike. Luckly for us, certain more, umm, fit, individuals had run up the back side and provided us with a wonderful BBQ complete with sourkrout (how does one spell that?) and brownies. After basking in the sunshine for a couple hours, it was declared time to race back down (a much easier adventure hampered only by the lack of adhesion to ground of your own two feet) and head to Thetis Lake for an afternoon swim.
Today's adventure confirms my feelings of Victoria - both the weather and the scenery are fabulous and there is no better place to live in Canada!
